Welcome to the village, a sacred and safe space for expectant women and families in St. Louis! Jamaa Birth Village is a 501c3 non-profit Midwifery, Doula & Maternal Health organization located in Ferguson, Missouri. Founded in October 2015, Jamaa Birth Village has worked with over 400 families in providing perinatal care, further lowering infant and maternal mortality/morbidity rates that are significantly higher for African-American women.  Jamaa, pronounced Jah-mah, means family in Swahili. Our main focuses are to enhance individual care, empower families by celebrating cultural heritage in a community care setting and combat racial & health inequities through:

  • Holistic & Culturally Based Midwifery Care (Home & Hospital Births. Birth Center Births Coming Soon!) 

  • Doula Care by women of color for women of color (For both Low & High Risk Pregnancies)

  • Culturally Based Childbirth & Nutrition Education

  • Breastfeeding & Postpartum Support

  • Mental-Emotional Care via Peer Groups & Professional Support

  • Mother-Baby Donations & Resources

  • Doula & Student Midwife of Color Training & Support (Jamaa has trained over 75 Doulas of color in the St. Louis region since 2015. Jamaa Birth Village supports future black Midwives through technical support, mentorships and clinical advancement.)
