Rapidly changing news platforms, the deluge of major news stories and the upcoming presidential election demand skilled and agile journalists.

The Greater St. Louis Association of Black Journalists (GSLABJ) will focus on these topics and more when it hosts the 2020 (NABJ) National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) Region II Conference, March 13-15, 2020, at the Marriott St. Louis Grand in Downtown St. Louis.

“We are excited to host this conference in St. Louis,” said Sharon Stevens, NABJ Region II Conference Chair. “Guided by the conference theme, Telling Our Story, we are working with local and national partners to present quality programming and workshops that engage conversations about journalism. Particularly conversations that are relevant today.”

The conference is open to working journalists, professional communicators, as well as journalism and communications students.

“We welcome NABJ Region II, which covers 13 Midwestern states,” said GSLABJ President Carol Daniel. “We’ve been the epicenter of national and global coverage, and a launch for so many national voices in the field of journalism. This is the place to be and now is the time to be here.”

As a first for NABJ Conferences, Google will host the Google News Election Training Workshop, which will cover topics such as “How to Visualize Your Election Story.”

The conference will feature a number of panels and events, including:
-Ferguson, Mo.: Impact on Journalism
-The NABJ Career Fair
Scheduled luncheon speaker, Bill Whitaker, 60 Minutes Correspondent
-Covering The 2020 Presidential Election with moderator Russ Mitchell, former St. Louis news anchor and reporter and current Cleveland WKYC Anchor and Managing Editor
